How to wash a silk sleep mask?

Comment laver la soie sans l'abîmer ? Guide complet

Why silk mask care is important

Silk is a natural and delicate material. Proper care helps preserve its softness, shine, and durability over time. On the other hand, improper care can damage the fibers, reduce softness, and shorten the mask's lifespan.

Good news: washing a silk mask is simple, as long as you follow a few basic rules.

Essential rules

  • Hand wash only: avoid using a washing machine, even on a delicate cycle. Mechanical agitation can damage silk fibers.
  • Cold or lukewarm water: never use hot water. Heat can shrink silk and alter its structure.
  • Mild soap or special silk product: avoid harsh detergents, bleach, and fabric softeners. Liquid Marseille soap or a specific silk product is perfectly suitable.
  • Do not wring: do not twist the mask. Gently press it between your hands to remove excess water.
  • Dry flat: lay the mask flat on a clean towel, away from direct sunlight and heat. Avoid tumble drying.
  • No direct ironing: if necessary, iron at a low temperature with a damp cloth between the iron and the silk.

How often should you wash your silk sleep mask?

Washing every one to two weeks is generally sufficient for daily use. If you use skincare products (night cream, oil) before bed, more frequent washing may be preferable to preserve the material.

Storing your mask between uses

Store your mask in its Maison Noctya pouch when not in use. This protects it from dust, light, and unnecessary friction.
