Silk sleep mask or classic mask?
Caring for it, in four steps.
Washed by hand, once a week. A few minutes in cool water with a gentle, enzyme-free soap is all it takes.
1. Soak
Cool water, a few drops of pH-neutral gentle soap, five minutes. No rubbing needed.
2. Rinse
In cool water, until the water runs clear. Leftover soap is what dulls silk.
3. Press
Roll it in a dry towel to draw the water out. Never wring wet silk — that is when it is at its most fragile.
4. Dry
Flat, in the shade. No radiator, no direct sun, no tumble dryer.

Is the mask adjustable?
Yes. The adjustment system is flat and silk-covered to avoid pressure points.
Does it press on the eyes?
No. The structure is designed to limit direct contact with the eyelids and lashes.
Is it suitable for side sleepers?
Yes. The slim profile and absence of a hard shell make it comfortable in all positions.
How should I care for the mask?
Hand wash in cold water with a gentle detergent. Do not wring. Lay flat to air dry. A care card is included with every order.
Does silk pill from rubbing against the pillowcase?
Silk wears through abrasion, and what matters is not so much the mask as the fabric it meets each night. A rough surface — a coarse cotton, a linen — rubs against the mask with every movement of the head and eventually dulls its sheen. Silk against silk does not catch: the two surfaces glide over one another instead of grazing. That is where the pairing matters — resting a silk mask on a silk pillowcase protects both at once and preserves the softness of each. On a well-cared-for mask, the elastic and the seams show time before the silk itself: a gentle cold wash, without wringing, and flat drying are enough to preserve the fibre season after season.

What exactly is satin?
Satin is a way of weaving, like plain weave or twill. It floats the threads across the surface, which creates the sheen and the glide. Almost any fibre can be woven into satin: silk, cotton, polyester. Silk satin means silk woven as satin, while satin on its own says nothing about the material. European regulation protects fibre names, so nothing but silk may be called silk. Satin is not a fibre, so the word is protected by nothing, and it appears on 100 % polyester items perfectly legally. The composition line is the one that tells you.
Satin or silk sleep mask: what's the difference?
Satin refers to a weave, not a material: most satin sleep masks are polyester. Silk is a natural, breathable, temperature-regulating fibre that stays cool against the skin all night. Our mask is 22 momme mulberry silk, not synthetic satin.
Does a silk eye mask really block out light?
Yes. The density of 22 momme silk and the soft drape around the nose limit the light reaching your eyes, at home as well as on a plane. Darkness settles in without any pressure on the eyelids.
Sleep mask, eye mask, blindfold: are they the same thing?
Yes, and there are more names than those. Sleep mask, night mask, eye mask, eye cover, blindfold: they all point to the same object, an accessory that covers the eyes to create darkness. Ours is a 22 momme mulberry silk sleep mask. Two of those words deserve a warning, because in English they usually mean something else first. An eye mask is, above all, the gel or hydrogel patch worn under the eye for twenty minutes, which is a skincare product and not something you sleep in. And a blindfold describes the same shape but rarely the same intention. As for how well any of them blocks the light, what lets it in is almost always the gap along the bridge of the nose, not the fabric.
Can you buy a sleep mask at the pharmacy?
Yes, but rarely the same object. What a pharmacy or drugstore usually stocks is a gel or thermal mask: you chill it or warm it, you keep it on for twenty minutes or so, and it is meant for tired eyes or a headache. That is a care product designed for a short moment, not for a whole night. A sleep mask answers a different brief altogether, where the weight, the fit and the material against the skin all exist so that you forget it is there until morning.
